Catholic Parents Fight 'Gay Agenda' Attack on Public Schools

Parents Say the Innocence of Children Is at Risk

A group of Catholic parents have developed a prayer group in an effort to ward off what they call an attack of homosexual agendas in their public schools, saying that the innocence of their children is at risk.

Ontario parents, concerned over Dalton McGuinty’s Equity and Inclusivity Education policy, met last week to begin initiatives to prevent homosexual ideals from imposing on classrooms. “I have found out that many ordinary Catholics want to do something. So starting tomorrow we are all going to pray,” said Kim Galvao of Concerned Parents of Ontario, to parents at the meeting.

Ontario became the last province in Canada to adopt McGuinty’s policy in May, which says that schools should promote the acceptance of all “dimensions of diversity,” including homosexual and transgendered students. It states, “Dimensions of diversity include, but are not limited to, ancestry, culture, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, language, physical and intellectual ability, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, and socio- economic status.”

The policy is part of the Accepting Schools Act which has stated that students are responsible for making communities more inclusive for all people, to include “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, transsexual, two-spirited, intersexed, queer and questioning people.”

“They cannot come and tell us what we should teach our children and tell our children that it’s OK to have two moms or two dads, and to have homosexual relationships, and that sex [outside of marriage] is not a sin,” Jacquie Guerron, chairwoman of the Roman Catholic Parents Coalition told the Washington Post in May, after the policy was passed.

The Parental Rights in Education Defense Fund also called the policy a violation of parent’s rights. “This represents an unconstitutional abuse of power, using state-sponsored propaganda to subvert parents’ rights over the moral education of their own kids,” a spokesperson from the Fund told LifeSiteNews.

“We have to fight for our children’s innocence. Once it is gone there is no way to get it back,” he said.

Parents resolved at the meeting to begin the “Save the Children Rosary Campaign.” For the campaign, parents will meet every Saturday to pray for issues in which they say “politicians have failed them.” The prayers will take place in the form of open sessions and will welcome all parents to join. It also encourages parents who cannot attend to pray at home.

A similar approach in public schools was suggested this week in the United States, when the Future of Sex Education released the “national sexuality education standards.” The standards were broken down by grade levels from Kindergarten to 12th grade. One standard proposed that students in the third grade should be able to “define sexual orientation as the romantic attraction of an individual to someone of the same gender or a different gender.”

Many parents found that the proposed standards interfered with their rights and charged that the standards also pushed a homosexual agenda in public schools.
