CBI and PF Develop Bible Courses for Inmates

The Crossroad Bible Institute (CBI) and Prison Fellowship collaborated to create an opportunity for prison inmates to engage in Bible Study programs. At present time, more than 71,000 inmates have been enrolled for Bible classes.

President of Prison Fellowship commented, “The Crossroad Bible Institute correspondence course provides an excellent opportunity for thousands of inmates to hide the Word of God in their heart and apply it to their lives and their culture.”

“Through this partnership, Crossroad Bible Institute and Prison Fellowship are strengthening entire families from top to bottom, creating a strong, stable family that’s ready to thrive when reunited,” he added.

Established in 1984, Crossroad Bible Institute equips the church to disciple inmates with the Word of God, wherever they are incarcerated. It is a personal, in-depth and long-term program that is uniquely designed to help prisoners establish stronger relationship with Jesus Christ. CBI’s 4,000 trained volunteers correct the completed lessons, which focus on reentry issues, and write personal letters of encouragement to the inmates.

As explained on CBI website, the program works in the following ways:

1. An inmate contacts a ministry or chaplain affiliated with CBI to request
information about something they heard

2. That ministry sends the inmate a CBI application.

3. The inmate completes and returns the application to CBI.

4. CBI mails Bible study lessons to the inmate, one at a time.

5. The inmate completes and returns the lessons to CBI for correction.

6. A CBI volunteer Instructor corrects and returns lessons, along with personal
letters of discipleship, to the inmate.

7. The inmate is awarded a handsome certificate when each course is successfully completed.
