CeCe Winans Headlines McDonald's Gospel Tour
The McDonald's Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour has kicked off its third annual tour, this time with Grammy-Award-winning gospel music artist CeCe Winans as the headliner.
The nationwide tour, which started Friday at the Friendship West Baptist Church in Dallas, will hit seven cities this month with free gospel concert events to celebrate of the rich, musical heritage of the
African-American community.
"McDonald's is pleased to present the Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour, featuring music that will lift spirits and inspire us all," announced Carol Sagers, marketing director for McDonald's USA, ahead of the tour.
"This tour is purely one example of how McDonald's recognizes and celebrates African American culture, heritage and achievements all year long," she added. "McDonald's is proud to be deeply rooted in the African American community."
For three years, McDonald's has worked with leading Gospel label EMI and concert producers Revolver Marketing Group (RMG), along with Urban Ministries Inc. (UMI), the nation's leading publisher and distributor of educational materials for African-American churches, to produce the tours.
This year's headliner, Winans, will be joined by PAJAM/Zomba recording artist J Moss to "deliver a sweet serving of inspiration across the country," with stops at major cities, including Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, and Atlanta.
In most cities, concerts will also include performances by local gospel groups to showcase community talent.
"People are in need of inspiration and this tour will give them just that," remarked Winans. "The concerts are in churches, and the churches are an important part of this outreach. It is exciting to join McDonald's, along with J Moss, and to be a part of providing inspiration to the community."
Following the last event of the month in Norfolk, Va., there will be at least two more dates later in the year – one in Newark, N.J., (June 13) and one in Washington, D.C. (Sept. 13). Tickets for the tour stop in Newark, however, will not be free and will need to be purchased.
The previous tour years featured top gospel recording artists Smokie Norful, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Kierra "KiKi" Sheard and Myron Butler and Levi.
