Chad Everett, 'Medical Center' Actor, Dies at 75

Chad Everett, star of the 1970s television drama "Medical Center," has died at age 75 on Tuesday.

He died in his Los Angeles home after a year-and-a-half-long battle against lung cancer, the actor's daughter, Katherine Thorp, told the Associated Press.

"Medical Center" ran seven seasons on which Everett portrayed surgeon Dt. Joe Gannon. His role earned him two Golden Globe nominations. At the time, the television series tied with "Marcus Welby, M.D." for the longest-running medical drama.

The Michigan native began acting in high school while taking theater classes. He attended Wayne State University before moving to Los Angeles and signing a contract with Warner Bros.

Everett's career spanned over four decades and saw many films and television show credits. The blue-eyed actor as appeared television shows such as "Melrose Place," "The Love Boat," "Murder She Wrote," and "Without a Trace," among others. Most recently, he had appeared on television series "Castle" and "Supernatural."

His film credits included "The Jigsaw Murders," "The Fireschasers," director Gus Van Sant's remake of "Psycho," and "Mulholland Drive" alongside Naomi Watts.

The actor was well known as being a conservative Republican, and made headlines in 1972 after debating issues with Lily Tomlin on "The Dick Cavett Show."

Twitter users were mourning the actor's death on Wednesday, as Chad Everett became a trending topic on the social media site.

"RIP Chad Everett," started Karyn. "I think you were my first crush with those beautiful eyes … Paging Dr. Joe Gannon. I think I just aged myself."

Bobby posted, "GOD Bless Chad Everett, rest in peace."

"Chad Everett chiseled jaw & piercing blue eyes … unforgettable," posted Nancy.

"We need to beat cancer," noted Wayne after expressing sympathy for Everett's family.

"He was a television staple when I was growing up," wrote Jon.

Everett was married to Shelby Grant for 45 years until her death last year. The actor is survived by his two daughters, Katherine and Shannon, and six grandchildren.
