Chad Johnson in Custody, Judge Rips NFL Star After Probation Violation Arrest (VIDEO)
Chad Johnson was reportedly jailed in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. after turning himself into police on Monday.
The former NFL star, 35, was arrested on suspicion of violating his one-year probation in relation to a domestic assault incident involving ex-wife Evelyn Lozada. An arrest warrant was issued in recent weeks when Johnson reportedly failed to meet his probation officer and show proof of enrollment in a domestic violence education class, according to TMZ.com.
"I didn't do any of this on purpose and I've been doing everything I was supposed to do. That's all," Johnson was quoted as saying in court.
Johnson was jailed by a Broward County judge, but he was later released after posting $1,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court for his next hearing, which was set for June 3.
Lozada, 38, filed for divorce from Johnson in August just one month after their lavish wedding following a domestic dispute in which she was headbutted. Lozada had approached Johnson over a receipt for condoms and he admittedly assaulted the reality TV star in rage.
"It gets pretty heated," Davie Police Department Capt. Dale Engle told The Sun Sentinel. "By the time they get home here in Davie it's pretty heated. She alleges he leaned over and headbutted her. He says she leaned towards him and that they butted heads. Needless to say, she has a good laceration on her forehead."
Johnson, who is a 12-year NFL veteran, lost his lucrative position with the Miami Dolphins due to the domestic assault incident. Various reports claim he is now facing a series of financial woes.
"I would like to wish Evelyn well and will never say anything bad about her because I truly love her to death," Johnson previously said in a public apology via TMZ.com.
"To all the fans and supporters I have disappointed, you have my sincerest apologies. I will stay positive and get through this tough period in my life," he added.
