Charity, Salon Team Up to Cut Hair for Water Wells

A Christian charity and a local hair salon in California are joining forces for a cut-a-thon to raise money for the construction of clean drinking water wells in Ghana.

The cut-a-thon involving David Salon in Costa Mesa and With This Ring charity is part of a series of "Orange County Gives Back" fall fundraisers organized by the ministry and local businesses to raise money for wells.

Up to $32,000 of funds raised by the hair cut campaign and other events will be matched by The Well, a group of house churches that meet throughout the Orange County area.

The salon is donating the full amount of every haircut to With This Ring.

With This Ring was founded in 2007 by Ali Eastburn, who is a hairstylist. Eastburn had donated her wedding ring to raise money for a well in Ghana, which is the inspiration behind the ministry's name.

To date, over 50 women have followed Eastburn's footsteps and donated their wedding rings to build wells.

"Rings, jewelry, hairstyles - these are what society often uses to define women," Eastburn said. "So why not take these very symbols of status and turn them into symbols of service?"

The David Salon cut-a-thon will take place Sept. 21 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
