Charlotte Hornets NBA Trade and Roster Rumors: Michael Carter-Williams Could Miss Start of Season

After a disappointing year with the Chicago Bulls, Michael Carter-Williams would have wanted to start off the season on the right foot. But it appears that he may have to wait a while longer to make his debut for the Charlotte Hornets.

The Charlotte Observer's Rick Bonnell has reported that Carter-Williams had procedures done on both knees last July and he may not be ready to play at the start of the season.

"Coach Steve Clifford revealed Carter-Williams' condition at a luncheon Friday with Charlotte media members who regularly cover the team. Clifford said Carter-Williams isn't cleared to work out with teammates on court, and it's not a given Carter-Williams will recover in time to be available for the Hornets' season opener Oct. 18 at the Detroit Pistons," Bonnell said.

Carter-Williams signed a one-year $2.7 million deal with the Hornets earlier this summer and he will play behind starting point guard Kemba Walker.

Carter-Williams' career actually got off to a promising start. In his National Basketball Association (NBA) regular season debut against the Miami Heat back in 2013, he had 22 points, seven rebounds, 12 assists and nine steals. Those were incredible numbers for a rookie playing his first game, and some people would say that he was the lone bright spot on the Philadelphia 76ers' roster that year.

He would receive the league's Rookie of the Year award after he led all rookie in scoring, rebounding and assists during the 2013–14 season.

The former Syracuse standout had a bright future ahead of him and many thought he was going to be the new face of the franchise for the Sixers. However, they made a surprising move the following season and he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Unfortunately, the move never panned out as the Bucks had hoped, and he was traded to Chicago before the 2016–17 season.

If Carter-Williams misses time, the Hornets will get the chance to play prized rookie Malik Monk at point guard.
