Chicago Bears Starting Safety Quintin Demps Fractures Arm, Out Indefinitely

The Chicago Bears finally picked up their first win of the season with a 23–17 overtime triumph over the Pittsburgh Steelers this past Sunday, but the victory was costly because they lost another defensive starter to injury in the process.

The Bears have announced that starting safety Quintin Demps has broken his left forearm and he's going to be out indefinitely.

They have yet to decide if he needs to go under the knife to repair his arm, so there's still no specific timetable for his return. He may come back sooner if he doesn't have to undergo surgery, but whichever choice they make, the veteran safety will still have to miss a significant amount of time while he recovers from the injury.

As of the moment, the team still hasn't decided if they are placing him on the injured reserve list.

Demps went down with the injury in the fourth quarter of the game while he was trying to tackle Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell. He's the third defensive starter to suffer an injury in as many weeks. The Bears have already lost starting inside linebacker Jerrell Freeman and his replacement, Nick Kwiatkoski, to pectoral injuries in the first two games of the season. Fortunately, Kwiatkoski's injury isn't that serious and he's expected to return soon.

With Demps on the sidelines, Adrian Amos will get another chance to prove that he deserves the starting safety position.

"I think [Amos] will be fine because he's been in this position before. This is another year for him. He's learned. He's a better player, smarter player. I think he'll get the job done, and he won't be by himself. We'll be here with him as a defensive unit. Special teams and offense have got our back as well," cornerback Sherrick McManis said, via the Bears' official website.

Amos started in 30 games for the Bears in the previous two seasons.
