'Chicago Med' Season 2 Spoilers: New Mentor Will Have Dr. Rhodes Questioning Career Choice; April Comes to Terms with Diagnosis

Dr. Rhodes' new mentor will prove to be a greater challenge than he ever expected.

The drama at the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center will be taken a notch higher when "Chicago Med" Season 2 returns to the small screen. That is saying a lot, considering where things left off for some characters in last season's finale.

Coming to terms with what happened

In the said finale episode, Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) bid his mentor Dr. Downey a tearful goodbye when the latter succumbed to cancer. April's (Yaya DaCosta) happiness over his boyfriend's proposal was short-lived when she learned about her tuberculosis diagnosis.

In the premiere episode of "Chicago Med" Season 2, April will try hard to come to terms with the unfortunate diagnosis. Will she be able to come clean to her new fiancé about her illness?

A new mentor and a love interest

Meanwhile, Dr. Rhodes will continue with his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship under a new mentor, Dr. Latham (Ato Essandoh). But, according to the episode synopsis, Dr. Rhodes will start off on the wrong foot and Dr. Latham will prove to be more of a challenge to him than his former mentor ever was.

Whether Dr. Rhodes will be able to complete his fellowship under Dr. Latham in two years remains to be seen. The latter will leave Dr. Rhodes wondering if he made the right career choice in "Chicago Med" Season 2.

His career will not be the only thing the good doctor will have on his mind in the next season. He will be involved romantically with the daughter of Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt), who will be introduced in the series.

Updates on the other doctors

Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) will be the new chief resident. He quickly finds out, however, that his new position is more difficult to handle than he initially thought.

Also in the premiere of "Chicago Med" Season 2, Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) will take on a complicated case of a pregnant woman who also involved in a high -speed collision. Meanwhile, Dr. Charles offers an interesting opportunity to Sarah (Rachel DiPillo), which catches her off-guard.

The episode of "Chicago Med" titled "Soul Care" will also feature Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) being offended by the actions of a fourth year medical student, Jess Clarke (Jeff Hephner). Dr. Halstead's past with Dr. Manning may have a lot to do with why he took offense at Clarke's actions.

Finally, Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) will try to move on with her life after her husband left her in last season's finale.

All of these fans will get to see when their favorite "Chicago Med" Season 2 premieres on September 22 on NBC.
