Chinese Christian Leaders Continuously Detained

China – Despite the laws of “religious freedom” in communist China, persecution of Christians remain at an all-time high. Voice of the Martyrs reports three prominent house-church leaders were arrested under a continuing government crackdown on what is seen as “unauthorized Christian activity.”

Xu Yonghai, Liu Fenggang, and Zhang Shengqi are well known for their active role in the missions network of the underground church movement in China. The first two, from Beijing, have been transported to Hangzhou where they are currently held. Under the Chinese legal system, they can be held for months before being formally charged or brought to trial. The two detainees have been arrested several times and have spent years at labor camps in the nearby regions.

According to VOM, Liu was most likely detained for his investigation of the arbitrary demolition of 12 large church buildings in October.
