Chris Brown Helps Domestic Violence Org; Anita Baker Names Him a Hero

Chris Brown is a hero according to veteran soul singer-songwriter Anita Baker and the 23-year-old R&B star seemed to prove just that when he recently spent time with an organization geared towards educating young people about domestic violence.

Brown made headlines for physically abusing ex-girlfriend and singer Rihanna in 2009 and being involved in a nightclub altercation recently, but eight-time Grammy Award-winning Baker said people should not judge him for that.

"Historically, in my generation, all of my heroes and heroines have had issues and problems. We all do," Baker told The Boom Box in Brown's defense. "Chris Brown is brilliant. That cat is crazy brilliant and I wish him the best."

The 54-year-old songstress went on to say that she would only embrace his artistry instead of his mistakes.

"He's an amazing talent. That's all I could take from him because that's all I'm entitled to, is his artistry. I take it and I embrace it," Baker said. "I also embrace his, whatever it is that has allowed these young ones to endure what they endure publicly, and to still be able to present themselves to us."

While Brown is well known for his domestic dispute years ago, he reportedly visited a festival at Jenesse's Center in Los Angeles recently to help provide the children with school supplies while encouraging them about their upcoming school year. The Los Angeles, Calif., center helps educate people about domestic violence and Brown also held an event with the organization to discuss dating violence this summer, according to Gossipwelove.com reports.

Brown recently spoke about the organization being important to him after forgiving him for his own experience with domestic violence.

"It's in my heart to show my fans, my friends and family and the families at Jenesse who stood by me, that they were right to give me another chance," Brown said in Gossipwelove.com reports. "I'm working hard to make them proud."
