Chris Brown's Lawyer Wants to Sue D.A. Questioning Singer's Community Service

Chris Brown's attorney is suggesting that the Los Angeles County district attorney accusing his client of being dishonest about community service hours may have be having trouble reading.

Brown, 23, was sentenced to 180 days of community service after assaulting girlfriend and singer Rihanna in 2009. However, the Los Angeles District Attorney reportedly filed legal documents stating that Brown's community service hours were "bogus," and that "he was actually on a private jet to Cancun" instead of fulfilling the duties of his probation, according to TMZ reports.

Mark Geragos, Brown's attorney, recently spoke to The Los Angeles Times and said that he is looking to "take legal action against the Los Angeles County district attorney."

The Times reports that prosecutors filed a 19-page report to request that courts do not accept Brown's community service hours due to "significant discrepancies indicating at best sloppy documentation and at worst fraudulent reporting."

However, Geragos insisted that the prosecution has had six interviews with Virginia authorities that have confirmed the validity of Brown's community service hours being served. Brown's attorney called the prosecution's claims defamatory.

"Apparently the district attorney's office has completely lost their minds," Geragos said. "They are making scurrilous, libelous and defamatory statements and apparently have lost their ability to read their own reports."

Last November, The Huffington Post reported that a probation officer said Brown "appears to be making a sincere effort to comply with terms and conditions of probation."

While the Richmond Police Department said it would be "inappropriate to comment on a matter before the court" in a statement to The Times, Geragos insists that the district attorney should be ashamed of claims that Brown was not working diligently on his community service.

Last year, Brown spoke about his struggles with overcoming a negative public opinion and trying to rebuild his brand after his public felony case against Rihanna.

"Having to get personal opinion back and having to gain personal success back, you know, it's not all the way back you know. But it's one of my most humbling experiences," he said on the MTV's "This is How I Made It" last year. "My story or my life or my legacy can hopefully show them that once you're down, that don't just mean you're down forever. You never let up."
