Chris Tomlin Goes Gold Twice as He Prepares for Burning Lights Tour
Chris Tomlin is celebrating the recent RIAA Gold certifications of his 2010 album And If Our God Is For Us... and his 2009 Christmas album Glory In The Highest: Christmas Songs of Worship.
And If Our God Is For Us... won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album in 2012 and Glory In The Highest: Christmas Songs of Worship peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Holiday albums chart.
"I'm so honored to celebrate these two Gold records. It takes an incredible team! My name may be on the plaque, but I know all the work that goes in to it from many, many people and I am so grateful. I am honored to write songs for the Church. Long after Gold records fade, record labels fade and the earth fades, the Church will stand. I am so humbled to be a part of that Church," Tomlin said at a Christian music event in Atlanta, Ga.
Tomlin just completed what turned out to be the most successful tour of his 13-year career with the "Burning Lights Tour" this spring.
His average show attendance went up 53 percent above his last tour in 2011-2012, and selling out 25 of his shows in big cities such as: New York, Los Angeles, Houston and Chicago with other shows reaching well above 10,000 tickets sold.
"The Burning Lights Tour" will pick up again this fall and pass through 21 cities starting Oct. 3. Accompanying Tomlin on the tour will be Louie Giglio, Pastor of Passion City Church and Passion founder, according to a press release.
The dates are not up yet, but ticket pre-sales will begin in June with details to be found on Tomlin's site, www.ChrisTomlin.com/tour.
Because of the success of the last tour, the singer released a live DVD of the final show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, Co. The two disc feature, called Burning Lights Deluxe Tour Edition, is set for an October release and is the first live DVD Tomlin has ever done. It will come with a CD of the Burning Lights album as well.
The DVD will also include some of the best moments of "Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)," "Revelation Song" performed with Kari Jobe and Louie Giglio's full 45-minute talk.
The CD debuted in January at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, setting history as only the fourth Christian album to debut at no. 1 with 72,000 units sold.
Tomlin has nine albums, 12 no. 1 radio singles, a Grammy Award, two Billboard Music Awards, and 21 Dove Awards as well as a platinum and four Gold records.
