Chris Wright Glorifies God for NBA Chance After MS Diagnosis, D-League Stint

Chris Wright, a 23-year-old point guard who was playing for the NBA D-League's Iowa Energy following a multiple sclerosis diagnosis, is glorifying God after news broke that he is going to the big leagues.

Wright will join the Dallas Mavericks on a 10-day contract, according to reports from ESPNDallas.com. Although the guard was diagnosed with MS last year ago while playing overseas, he is glorifying God for the journey that may lead to extended play in the NBA.

"God works in mysterious ways, man, and he blessed me. I've got goosebumps," Wright said in an IndyStar.com report. "I can't believe it."

Before his season with the Energy began, Wright made his way to the New Orleans Hornets training camp. Although the guard felt he could compete in the NBA, he ended up on the NBA D-league roster.

Still, he was grateful for the opportunity to do what he loved in a professional arena.

"The NBA D-League has been a great avenue for me to fine-tune my skills," Wright said. "I'm just going up there, work hard and play my role."

The guard averaged averaged 15.5 points, seven assists and 4.3 rebounds for the Energy while gaining the respect of his coach.

"Chris has got heart like no other, plays really, really hard," Energy coach Bruce Wilson explained. "His decision-making has gotten better and better as the year has progressed, understanding the reads off of pick and roll things. Hey, there's guys that I see going up there that I think Chris is just as good as."

After hearing that he was on his way to the NBA, a number of people took to Twitter to congratulate the guard.

"Congrats to @SELF_MADEest89 getting a call up to the show," one person wrote using Wright's Twitter handle. "Keep up the hard work."

Another person spoke about Wright overcoming adversity to get to the NBA.

"This time last year they were saying my mans career was over..now he's right where he belongs..strong dude @SELF_MADEest89," the person tweeted.

The Washington D.C. native said the news of his NBA contract came as a surprise and called it nothing short of a blessing.

"I had no idea. It was out of the blue,"Wright said in the IndyStar.com report. "It was a blessing. It's an opportunity to get where I want to be."
