Christian Artist Inspires Thousands to Serve the Lord Only
John Waller, best known for his song “While I’m Waiting” from the motion picture “Fireproof,” has a new album out. But perhaps what’s drawing more attention is a declaration he and more than 3,000 others have so far made – to serve the Lord and the Lord only.
The declaration was inspired by the title track of album, As for Me and My House, a song that was two years in the making. It is the story of Joshua’s (from the Old Testament) last words, Waller explained to The Christian Post.
“Joshua's last words as he was dying, he said, ‘as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.’ So it's about tearing down idols which is a huge problem and always has been throughout history.”
Those who sign the Joshua 24:15 Declaration pledge: “We will stand with you and we will sign our name and say we will tear down idols and we will only serve God.”
“We believe that God is going to start a movement and we are listening to His heart and what He is doing in the world today,” said Waller. “I believe that He is calling men out of idolatry; He is calling men to surrender fully and to stand up and lead their families.”
While the Christian music community sees Waller as a new artist, he has been writing songs and singing for over 20 years, and As for Me and My House is his third national release. He first captured the public’s attention as the frontman of the pop band According to John before leaving the group to help establish a new church.
The Georgia native shared that in the process of working as a recording artist and pursuing other projects, life had made it difficult for him to continue due to a clinical depression he had suffered for over 20 years.
“I found freedom just seven years ago,” he said. “Someone prayed for me and it really helped me uncover where I had come into agreement with the enemy, where I had come into agreement with lies. They were not true of me and the Word of God.”
He said that while going over what Jesus said – "You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free” and about the “fruit of the Spirit” – he couldn’t find depression listed as the fruit of the Spirit.
“[Instead], I find love joy and peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity and self-control. God is not giving us the spirit of fear. He is giving us the spirit of love, kindness and a sound mind.”
As he engraved Jesus’ identity into his own, he discovered a “freedom that came into my life that set me free from depression and it literally changed my body, the chemicals physiologically. Discovering the truth is the way to be free.”
A father of five, with one on the way, Waller testified that walking with God is important now more than ever because as “the end is near, it seems to get more and more evil.”
His only hope is for his music to be used to inspire people to love and walk with God as passionately as he does.
“I want to do music that is the Word of God moving through music moving forward and that's the only thing that will change lives for eternity.”
