Christian Coalition Pleased with Aknowledgements of God at RNC

Christian Coalition is pleased with remarks made by Republican Senator Elizabeth Dole’s speech delivered during the Republican National Convention, saying that the Constitution guarantees freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.

"The right to worship God isn't something Republicans invented, but it is something Republicans will defend,” said Dole during her speech.

Mrs. Dole cited John 10:10 as she said, "Two thousand years ago, a man said, 'I have come to give life and to give it in full.' In America, I have the freedom to call that man Lord, and I do."

The President of Christian Coalition of America, Roberta Combs, agreed with Dole and hailed President Bush for not shying away from his faith.

"I am very pleased that during these critical times America is going through, President George W. Bush, as he has done throughout his first term, has emphasized faith throughout his convention this week. As President Bush said last year, 'Events aren't moved by blind change and chance. Behind all of life and all of history, there's a dedication and purpose, set by the hand of a just and faithful God',” Combs said in a statement.

Many of Christian Coalition delegates are attending the Republican National Convention in New York City and many are on the Platform, Rules and Arrangements Committees. On Aug. 31, many also attended "Faith, Family and Freedom Rally,” a private rally held by the Bush-Cheney campaign for religious conservatives.

The organization, which is America's largest Christian grassroots organization with more than 2 million supporters, is preparing for its upcoming pro-life, pro-family conference to be held Sept. 24-25 in Washington D.C. The God Bless America - One Nation Under God 2004 Road to Victory Conference may also feature President Bush and Mel Gibson as featured speakers.
