Christian Hip-Hop Brings Nigerians to Christ
The fruits of Christian hip-hop are becoming clearer in America as the ears of urban youth are being attracted to the Gospel through a medium that not only preaches the gospel, but raps it. But its reach is expanding beyond the boundaries of the West and capturing the audience of Nigeria’s youth, which is evident in IBK, a rising Nigerian Christian rapper whose music is helping to bring his countrymen to Christ.
Hailing from Warri, Delta State, Nigeria, Ibukun Kevin Emuwawon, better known as IBK, has been spreading the Gospel through his musical genius as a renowned producer, vocal instructor, writer, and artist. Capturing the ears of many with his blend of hip-hop, jazz, and neo-soul wrapped up in the Gospel, many feel his music is out of this world and is often referred to as “spaceship music.”
With the International Day of Pray for the Persecuted Church just days earlier, people are reminded that IBK lives in a country where many Christians in northern Nigeria are persecuted for identifying with Christ. His music not only serves as a means to the light of Christ for Nigerians, but for the world as his platform continues to grow.
