Christian Man Decapitated in New Violence in Indonesia's Poso

A Christian man was decapitated in the latest incidence of violence against non-Muslims in Indonesian town of Poso, police said on Friday

A Christian man was decapitated in the latest incidence of violence against non-Muslims in Indonesian town of Poso, police said on Friday.

Residents found a plastic bag containing the head of the 48-year-old man late Thursday in the Poso Pesisir area of the Central Sulawesi province, district deputy police chief Rudi Trenggono told AsiaNews.

"We have no suspects at the moment but this could be a personally-motivated case or another attempt to antagonise both Muslim and Christian communities here," the police chief said.

Trenggono also reported that a homemade bomb had gone off in the nearby hills approximately one hour after the discovery. There were no reports of damage or casualties.

Thursday's incidents come amidst a series of sectarian killings in Indonesia in recent weeks.

On Thursday, Oct. 21, gunmen shot and wounded a man on the grounds of the Bethany Christian Church in the village of Jono Oge, 12 miles from Southeast Sulawesi’s provincial capital of Palu. Police say the victim was inside the grounds of the Church when he was shot in the neck.

And in the week before, a Hindu woman was killed and two Christian men were wounded when a group of attackers fired randomly into their houses. On that same day two Christian men hacked to death in a rural district south of the provincial capital of Palu.

Although large-scale violence in Indonesia has ended, there are still reports of sporadic attacks, mostly on Christian villages and places of worship.
