A Christian-owned broadcasting company that serves as the only source of independent news in Mongolia and the only local television station in Mongolia openly sharing the Gospel message began airing in the capital city through Eagle TV this month.

After nearly 10 years of service, Eagle TV, which is now fully operated by Eagle Broadcasting Company (EBC), began airing on Oct. 22 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia as a cable news network in association with SANSAR cable.

“This is an exciting moment for our staff and all who have loved Eagle TV for so long,” said Tom Terry, Managing Director of Eagle Broadcasting Company in a statement released by EBC.

Eagle TV was previously operated by the Mongolian Broadcasting Company (MBC) – a 50/50 joint venture between the Sioux Falls-based AMONG Foundation and Mongolian business partners. AMONG Foundation is a Christian ministry dedicated to advancing faith and freedom in Mongolia through television with more than 20,000 people having been reached in Mongolia through AMONG’s Christian services.

In April 2003, Eagle TV was closed down, leaving “many Mongolians … heartbroken at having lost independent news through television,” said Terry. During the two year period, the new Eagle Broadcasting Company was formed and was committed to “creating a new and even better Eagle TV.”

The new EBC, which has been operating in Mongolia since Jan. 17, 2005, broadcasts live news from sources such as FOX NEWS, Associated Press and from the formerly co-owned Eagle TV studios, in addition to running Christian programs.

In a statement released by EBC on Oct. 18, the EBC director listed the upcoming plans for the TV station.

“We are working on a plan to expand our broadcast day with live Mongolian news content from 7am-midnight, 7 days a week. Our goal is to initiate the new schedule by the last week of November,” said Terry.

“We are also developing a new video-based Bible-telling strategy called Steppe-by-Steppe that Eagle ministry teams will take to the Aimags and countryside areas beginning mid-2006.”

In addition, “our Christian ministries division is expanding with the addition of 22 new staff planned for January 2006, to add new children’s programming to our line-up, as well as our Steppe-by-Steppe outreach,” Terry stated.

Corrections:Tuesday, November 1, 2005:
An article on Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, about a Christian-owned broadcasting company in Mongolia beginning to broadcast in Ulaanbaatar on Oct. 22 incorrectly reported that EBC was formerly known as Eagle TV. The Christian Post communicated with Eagle Broadcasting Company on Tuesday and the correct relationship is that Eagle TV was formerly owned by the Mongolian Broadcasting Company (MBC) and the new Eagle TV is operated by Eagle Broadcasting Company (EBC). Also in the seventh paragraph, EBC was referred to as a radio station. It is actually a TV station.
