Christian Parents Warned 14-Y-O Daughter Can Be Taken Away for Banning Gender Transition to Be a Boy
Christian parents in the U.K. are taking legal action against their local council authority after it undermined their parental rights and sided with their 14-year-old daughter who says she wants to transition to become a boy.
The Daily Mail reports that the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told local council officials that she wants to start transitioning to look like a boy. The parents have said that she is too young to be making such decisions, however, and will be meeting with teachers and social workers next month to discuss how the girl should be addressed and treated at school.
The Christian Legal Centre, which will be funding the legal costs for the parents, blamed the "transgender cultural movement" for creating what it called a new "conflict of rights" within the family.
Andrea Williams of the Christian Legal Centre said: "This is the emperor's new clothes. Authorities are forcing an agenda that is not true, and harmful to children. This case demonstrates shocking disregard for parental authority: no one is listening to what the parents want or have to say. They know the child the best, and have the child's interests at heart.'"
The 14-year-old girl's mother said in an interview with the Sunday Times, according to The Sun, that "the rights of parents in the U.K. are being eroded, especially those who have traditional Christian values. It is leaving parents to feel fearful, vulnerable and intimidated."
What is more, the parents' lawyer, Michael Phillips, has warned that if they fail to follow the guidance of social workers, their daughter could be taken away from them.
"Social workers claim the girl has a close 'heterosexual' relationship with a 13-year-old girl," The Sun reports.
Barring parental involvement in children who are struggling with gender dysphoria has also been a controversial issue in the U.S., notably with the introduction of a "gender unicorn" character North Carolina school districts where teachers are trained that parents don't need to be involved in making decisions about their children's gender choices.
North Carolina school faculty have reportedly been told that parental involvement may not be required for students struggling with gender identity issues, which has been criticized by major evangelical leaders, such as the Rev. Franklin Graham.
Graham said back in August that the gender unicorn is an effort "to try to brainwash our children into accepting that homosexuality and transgender behavior is OK."
"Parents, watch out. They are using this unicorn to grab the imagination of children and make this seem acceptable," he continued.
"The Communists used brainwashing in Eastern Europe and Russia, and they took the parents out of the decision-making process and the state began to make decisions about morality. This is a dangerous path."
