Christians Denied Medical Care After Hate Crimes in Vietnam

Three Christians who were seriously injured during religious hate crimes in Vietnam are said to finally be receiving medical treatment more than a week after they first received their injuries.

It's believed that an anti-Christian gang led by a man only known as “Khoan” is responsible for the horrific assault that left several people injured.

Compass Direct News (CDN) writes, “The attack on a church leaders’ worship service of an Agape Baptist Church (ABC) house church in Lai Tao village, Bot Xuyen commune, My Duc district left one woman, evangelist Nguyen Thi Lan, with her pelvis broken in two places and with badly damaged internal organs.”

The attack is said to have taken place near Hanoi on Nov. 13, and in the home of Christian leader Nguyen Thi Lan – who sources claim angered members of her community after encouraging fifty locals to become devout Christians.

Many have been left outraged at the delayed medical response, as it’s been reported today that after over a week of no medical treatment the three injured Christians have finally been moved to an undisclosed hospital in Ho Chi Minh City to receive much needed medical assistance.

CDN explains that Vietnam’s doctors’ simply have an unwillingness to help any victims of religious hate crimes, “When doctors in Vietnam learn that religious motives play a role in violence, commonly they do not dare to treat or even examine the victims of persecution. “

It's also been reported that even after attempting to get medical care, the injured Christians were constantly turned away with Doctors insisting they were fine.

Although it's been reported that the injured Christians contacted police for help after being left shaken from the attacks, it’s unlikely they will get any.

CDN explains, “A long-time Vietnam religious liberty advocate said there is a growing pattern of strong social persecution in Vietnam where new Christian groups flourish.”
