Christy Turlington's Daughter Nearly Killed Mother During Pregnancy
Model Mom and Daughter Pose in a New Photoshoot
Model Christy Turlington has introduced her 8-year-old daughter to the world in an ad which may have just introduced a new model to Calvin Klein. Having children was no easy task for Turlington though, as she was at risk for death while she was giving birth.
Christy Turlington, 43, grew her reputation as a model for Calvin Klein, but she has also modeled for other companies like Maybelline Cosmetics and Versace. In her most recent photo shoot, Turlington had company: the DuJour shoot features the model in a series of loving photos with her 8-year-old daughter.
Who's the new girl? Her name is Grace Turlington, and she is one of two children born to the lifelong model. One photo shows mom and daughter after what appears to be a day of horseback riding. Grace wears a tall black top hat that falls over her eyes as her mother touches the little girl's nose with the tip of her finger.
In a second photo Turlington gives her daughter a warm embrace from behind.
While the 8-year-old may be too young for the modeling world currently, her mother was actually discovered at the age of 13. The ad may at least get the attention of a few scouts looking for the next big thing to break through in the industry.
In one photo Turlington is wearing a shirt that reads, "Every Mother Counts." The shirt is remnant of a documentary that Turlington led after she gave birth to one of her children and suffered from post partum hemorrhaging (PPH). The 2010 documentary was titled "No Woman, No Cry" and followed four pregnant women's journeys in Tanzania, Bangladesh, Guatemala and the U.S. as they gave birth to their children and suffered from PPH.
PPH is the number one cause of pregnancy-related deaths around the world and nearly cost Turlington her own life. Since, Turlington has launched the advocacy organization Every Mother Counts (EMC) to help protect other women from PPH.
