Church of England Publishes Prayer for William and Kate Following Pregnancy News
The Church of England has published a prayer for the well-known Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in regards to the recent news of the royal couple expecting a child.
Released after the announcement on Monday by St. James Palace regarding William and Kate, the prayer focused on the matter of love and life.
"God our creator, we thank you for the wonder of new life and for the mystery of human love. We pray for William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge as they prepare to receive the gift of their child," reads the prayer. "We thank you that we are known to you by name and loved by you from all eternity, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."
On Monday, a palace spokesman stated that "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby."
"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news," continued the spokesman.
Earlier this week, Duchess Catherine was admitted to King Edward VII hospital over health issues pertaining to intense morning sickness.
While the palace did not specify the exactly how far along Kate's pregnancy was, the spokesman did say she had not yet reached the 12-week mark.
Although it has been some time since the sun set on the British Empire, news of the pregnancy became a major global topic. On Twitter, for example, the term "#royalbaby" trended worldwide on the social media outlet.
Howard Dobson, spokesman for the Church of England, told The Christian Post that the issuing of the official prayer was not an uncommon practice for the state religious establishment.
"We often publish Topical Prayers on our website. In the past we have published prayers for the Olympics and for the Royal Wedding," said Dobson.
Other recent calls to prayer by the Church of England include a prayer for peace in Gaza and a prayer for the newly appointed Archbishop of Canterbury.
The child of William and Kate will be third in line for the royal throne. If the child ascends to the throne, it will also hold the position of "Supreme Governor of the Church of England." This title includes the power to appoint bishops, archbishops, and deans of cathedrals per the advice of the prime minister.
