Cincinnati Bengals NFL Trade and Roster Rumors: Will the Bengals Bench Andy Dalton?
The Cincinnati Bengals have already fired offensive coordinator Ken Zampese after they failed to score a single touchdown after two games this season, but it appears that Andy Dalton's starting job may be in jeopardy as well after another poor performance last week.
Dalton was one of the most-sacked quarterbacks in the National Football League (NFL) last year, and he's near the top of the list again after the first two games of the season.
He has been ineffective so far, and he is looked at as the scapegoat for the Cincinnati Bengals' struggles on offense early on this season. In fact, fans have been clamoring for the team to bench him in favor of A.J. McCarron.
But according to ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio, some of the Bengals players seem to have another quarterback in mind. They reportedly want the team to consider bringing in Colin Kaepernick.
Of course, observers don't think the Bengals are going to simply cater to the whims of their players, but it is interesting to hear that they have already lost faith in their starting quarterback.
McCarron should get the start if the Bengals bench Dalton and he's definitely ready for the job. However, he thinks the critics should lay off Dalton because the much-maligned quarterback is doing his best to help the team win.
"I wish people would in this city would back him and go with it. Listen, I think I'm a great quarterback and I think he's an unbelievable quarterback. I love him to death. But he's our quarterback. Stop making it into something else. It's not into something else. Ride with him. Trust the team. Trust the process. And trust what we are trying to do. And be a fan of who is playing. We are all part of a team," McCarron said, via the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Dalton is still the starting quarterback for the Bengals, but how long can he hold onto the job?
