Cissy Houston's Battle with Whitney's Drug Abuse: 'I Want My Daughter Back'

Although Whitney Houston suffered from a history of drug abuse, she did not suffer alone. Her mother, Cissy Houston, stood right by her side and fought to get her daughter back.

Much attention has been focused on Whitney Houston's history of drug abuse, as reports suspect that drugs may have played a role in the singer's death. The news has hit Cissy Houston, the singer's mother, hard after her struggle of trying to get Houston back from a world she said had taken her.

In a 2009 interview with Oprah, Whitney Houston told of her mother's struggle to rescue her from drug abuse. "One day my mother came to my house, it was kind of funny but now that I look at it I see the kind of love and passion that my mother has for me."

Drug rumors began to surround Houston after her marriage to R&B singer Bobby Brown in 1992. After their divorce in 2007, Houston admitted that she and Brown had a volatile relationship.

In Houston's interview with Oprah she said her mother took charge of the drug situation. "She walks in with these sheriffs and she says I have a court junction here, you do it my way or we're just not going to do this at all," Houston recalled. "We're going to go on T.V. and you're just going to say that I retire and you're just going to give it up because this is just not worth it."

Cissy was also short with Bobby Brown. "If you move Bobby, they're going to take you down. Don't you make one move," Houston recalled. "And he just stood there like he was scared and she said lets go."

The most recent reports concerning the singer's death have stated that sedatives were found in Houston's blood. Pictures were also revealed of alcohol on the table alongside a meal that Houston had ordered. Mixing sedatives with alcohol is known to be extremely dangerous.

"I'm not losing you to the world. I'm not losing you to Satan. I'm not doing this. I want my daughter back," Cissy said, trying to rescue her daughter after showing up with the police. "I want you back."
