Cissy Houston's Faith Enough to Save Bobbi Kristina?

Cissy Houston has been considered a woman of deep faith who was willing to give up her career to raise her family. Despite her efforts to save her daughter from the world, Whitney's struggles still overcame her, leaving Cissy Houston to care for her only daughter. Will Houston's faith be enough to save her granddaughter?

Many reports have stated that Bobbi Kristina is an extremely troubled state, having to deal very publicly with the death of her mother. Cissy Houston, who is also suffering the pain of losing a child, is now determined to protect her granddaughter.

A source reported to the Daily News that Cissy is now "running the show" and keeping Bobby Brown out of it. Cissy appears to have a hard time trusting Brown after witnessing the negative influence that he had on Whitney.

"As far as Bobby Brown is concerned, Cissy wants him to stay as far away as possible because she thinks he is a negative influence. Bobby Brown talks a lot about how he wants to help his daughter but he never follows it up with action. Bobby is all about Bobby and if he really cared about his daughter, he would have stayed at the funeral," a source told Hollywood Life.

Cissy tried for years to save her daughter from the endless battles she seemed to face.

"I'm not losing you to the world. I'm not losing you to Satan. I'm not doing this. I want my daughter back," Cissy said once during a house intervention in which she brought sheriffs to Whitney's home to rescue her from drug abuse. At the time, she also told Bobby Brown to stay out of it.

"If you move Bobby, they're going to take you down. Don't you make one move," Whitney recalled her mother saying during an Oprah interview.

Cissy also spent a lifetime trying to keep God in the lives of her children.

"When her daughter, Bobbi Kristina, was born ... I told Whitney what I've told all my children: Unless you love God and yourself, you can't love anyone. I'm sorry that sounds so strong but it's true," a Jet interview revealed that she wrote in her 1998 book, "How Sweet the Sound."

In the book, Cissy also commented on the two gifts she gave her daughter Whitney- faith, and a background in gospel music.

"I'm not a preacher, I'm not any of that," she told Jet magazine during a visit to Chicago to promote her new book in 1998. "I trust in God. I have things that I live by. I don't try to throw my religion or push my religion off on anybody. If I'm asked about certain things, then I'll tell them," Cissy said.

Now that the media has turned its attention to Bobbi Kristina, Cissy has taken on a more defensive stance.

"Cissy Houston couldn't do nothing with Whitney and the hangers-on, moochers and enablers that sucked the life out of her (daughter)," a source told the Daily News. Cissy won't be having that a second time around.

"I'll be damned if I'm burying my grandbaby," is her current attitude, the confidant confirmed.

"You go through a lot of pain with all of the things that people say about my daughter. I get angry, and I want to go and smash them up a little bit," Cissy told Jet. "I'd love to have a press conference and tell them off, but I know that's a no-no. I don't think that would be the thing to do. It's not even worth the retaliation," said the troubled mother.

"In the final analysis, I would still tell her to call upon her Power, and that is where we stand. As long as you call upon your Power, as long as you know that God is always there, they can't hurt you," added Cissy.

Cissy Houston's faithful attitude may not have been enough to save her daughter once she fell in to stardom and a volatile marriage that she couldn't seem to escape. However, that may also explain why Cissy won't be having Bobby Brown around much now.

"He is just trying to come across like this concerned father, but he isn't," a source told Hollywood Life.
