Detailed in a recent post on the game's official website, this free update is set to bring support for the Steam Workshop.
As the developers noted, the introduction of support for the Steam Workshop will make it easier for players to tinker with some of the elements inside the game. Players will soon be able to look for mods more easily and once they find one that they like, they can proceed to install it quickly.
In addition to the Steam Workshop support, this update will also bring new features for multiplayer mode.
Specifically, it will soon become possible for friends to cooperate inside the game while they are going up against either other human players or AI opponents.
Also included in this free "Civilization 6" update are some game tweaks, including ones that could affect ice caps and trade routes, according to the developers.
There is no exact date set for when this free update will be released for the game, but developers have mentioned that it is "coming soon."
In related news, developers also recently announced that a new downloadable content pack will be released for the game, and it is based on Australia.
Former Prime Minister John Curtin will be leading the Australian Civ. Similar to other Civs, the one for Australia also comes with a special traits.
A new video release for the game talks about these special features, such as the unique ability known as Land Down Under that grants cities extra housing if they are built on coastal tiles, and The Digger, a unique unit for the Australian Civ that gets even stronger when it fights outside of its territory.
No release date has been announced yet for the Australia-based DLC pack.
