Claire Danes- I'm 'Never Concerned About Looking Beautiful On-Screen'
Actress Claire Danes stars on one of the most popular TV shows, "Homeland," and plays a character whose bipolar disorder sometimes gets the best of her. Danes insists that showing raw emotion doesn't bother her, as she's never been concerned about being "beautiful" while on-screen.
"She gets emotional a lot," Danes told Glamour magazine, which she is on the cover of. "But I actually think feelings are really hard for people. I think people are made uncomfortable by uncensored expressions of emotion. But, you know, that's my job. I don't have those fears. I really have never been concerned about being beautiful on-screen. I'm concerned about it if I'm playing a beautiful character, but it's not relevant for Carrie. I don't need to worry about that, and I think that's really great."
Danes was pregnant while filming this latest season and is now focused on raising son Cyrus, who will turn one this month. She married actor Hugh Dancy in 2009 and the couple has had a much more stable relationship than the one portrayed between Danes and co-star Damian Lewis.
"To have a child is deeply grounding and I think it has tethered Hugh and I. It's all about creating a family together," Danes told the British Mirror in September.
But while family is incredibly important to the actress, so is equality for women, and that's why Danes takes great pride in calling herself a feminist.
"I am a feminist, and I'm so glad that Lena Dunham exists, because she is one too, and she's quite vocal about it. Yes, women have more freedom and more influence than ever, but it's hardly equal. It's just not. It's really [expletive] crazy. I'm sorry I'm cursing, but it's wild that women are underrepresented in Hollywood," she explained.
"Homeland" is currently in its third season on Showtime and still retaining high records of viewers. It airs on Sunday nights.
