Cleveland Browns NFL Trade Rumors: Josh Gordon Still Has a Future With the Browns

The Cleveland Browns may have cut ties with Johnny Manziel because of his behavior off the field, but they are not ready to let go of wide receiver Josh Gordon.

During a media scrum at the annual league meeting in Phoenix, Arizona this week, Browns general manager Sashi Brown talked about how they would still welcome Gordon back when he gets reinstated into the league because they were not in a position to let him walk away.

"Listen, assuming he would play at the level we started to see glimpses of last preseason and certainly in the league before, [Gordon] would be a talent I think no team in the NFL would turn down if he got back in. Our decision with Josh is just understanding where he is in this process and being able to have him. We're not in position at wide receiver to turn down a guy like Josh if we feel he's settled himself," Brown said, according to ESPN.

Gordon may be a head case who repeatedly violated the league's substance-abuse policy, but he also possesses the skills to become a dominant receiver and he made it to the All-Pro first team in 2013. Unlike Manziel, Gordon has already proven that he can already play at a high level and the Browns do not want to let a player like that leave.

The Browns should give him another chance, and if he does not fit in with the current roster they can always trade him. He will probably draw a lot of attention on the trade market.

Gordon has missed a lot of games because of his issues off the field, and he hasn't played in the National Football League (NFL) since Dec. 21, 2014. He applied for reinstatement earlier this month and ESPN's Dan Graziano‏ said the wide receiver would hear back from the league by late April or early May.
