Cleveland Cavaliers Roster, Injury News 2017: Isaiah Thomas Making Progress in Recovery, Closer to Return Than Expected

The Cleveland Cavaliers may get Isaiah Thomas back sooner than expected.

The plan is to get the All-Star guard back on the floor by Jan. 1, but according to Cleveland.com's Joe Vardon, Thomas has been making good progress in his recovery from a hip injury and the intensity of his recent workouts seems to suggest that he will return a bit sooner than initially anticipated.

However, Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue has hinted that they will stick to the timetable because they don't want to bring him back too soon and risk further injury.

"You know, the staff is doing a great job of just, you know, just trying to get him ready, trying to get him right, so, we don't want to rush him back if he's not 100 percent," Lue said on Sunday. "They've been doing a good job of taking it slow, making sure they're rehabilitating him the right way, and we just go from there," he continued.

"We have to make sure he's 100 percent," Lue stated following Monday's workout, via NBA.com. "If he's not right, not healthy, we don't want to rush him back to set him back even more," he added.

The Cavaliers are struggling badly right now and Thomas can give them a huge boost on offense once he's healthy enough to play.

Meanwhile, the Cavaliers will have to address their issues on the defensive end of the floor. For some reason, they just can't seem to stop opposing teams from scoring this season.

Many had assumed that their defense would be better this year after they acquired a tough wing defender like Jae Crowder, but he has struggled so far and he's still getting used to his new teammates.

Of course, there's no need to panic since the Cavaliers have enough talent on the roster to turn things around, but they will have to sort this out soon before thing get worse.
