They have nine games left in their schedule and are 3 games ahead of the Raptors at the moment. This big win over the Rockets can put the nail in the coffin in Toronto's attempt to chase the defending Eastern Conference champions.
Furthermore, the Cavaliers have won three of their last four games as they try to finish strong. They have beaten the Denver Nuggets, Milwaukee Bucks and New York Knicks in this run they are currently on.
On the other hand, the Rockets are consistently toying with the eighth spot in the Western Conference.
At the moment they hold the last spot in the playoff race in the West but they are virtually tied with the Mavericks.
A loss against Cleveland immediately drops them out of the race and with only a few games remaining in the season it may be extremely hard for them to fight back.
Given their struggles this year, the Rockets are looking for a strong performance to show everyone that they can be an elite team when they play together.
Unfortunately, that has come very few times this year and they are merely a shadow of what they were only a season ago.
In their first and only meeting so far this year, the Rockets were firmly dominated by the Cavaliers 91-77 at the Toyota Center.
The Cavaliers seemed to be the home team in that game as they thrashed the Rockets en route to a comfortable win.
