Clown Terrorizes Town After Residents Voice Displeasure on Social Media

A clown spotted several times in a small English town is speaking out over claims that he is "terrorizing" the locals insisting that it is all in fun while he is trying to spread happiness and fun.

The clown was first spotted on Friday the 13th in the town of Northampton with residents taking pictures of the clown and his stature growing on social media.

But as more and more residents reveal how uncomfortable the clown's appearance is making them, the man behind the mask is speaking out and defending his actions.

"I just wanted to amuse people," the clown told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo. The individual has wished to remain anonymous while adding that many folks "enjoy being a bit freaked out."

The clown also revealed that his costume was inspired by the terrifying Pennywise from the Stephen King classic and has appeared with balloons and a teddy bear throughout the town.

He understands how some people may have been upset by his appearance but insists he was simply trying to provide a bit of levity.

"Naturally, some people would have been extremely frightened by what they saw, but I hope many are starting to see it as a bit of harmless fun," the clown added.

Earlier in the week, the menacing clown posted an ominous message on Facebook, writing, "I'll be seeing you all very soon (in the day!) but i'm going to lay low for a bit as i have a big surprise for you all hopefully due at the end of the week!! Beep Beep!"

"I'd be terrified if I saw that clown at night," one English woman told CNN while she herself was flanked by a person wearing an oversized pink pig suit.

When asked how he would react if he encountered the clown on the street, another man told CNN "I'd probably run away, he's got quite a mean face on him.
