"I really didn't think this one was going to happen this year," Lambert said during her acceptance speech for the high honor, before thanking her husband and fans. "I sit here every time and I'm just so thankful to be here."

It was Lambert's fourth consecutive Female Vocalist of the Year award.

Alternately, Shelton also took time to thank his wife after winning the Male Artist honor.

"Not to just echo the words of Miranda, but I really swear, I did not think this was going to happen this year, but it did," he added.

In addition to winning Male Artist of the Year, Shelton's album "Based on a True Story…" earned him the CMA Award for Top Album.

Deemed "Country Music's Biggest Night," the CMAs also made a big winner out of Taylor Swift who won the second-ever winner of the Pinnacle Award. The honor celebrates artists with international outreach. The first ever Pinnacle Award went to Garth Brooks in 2005.

Moreover, George Strait took home the top honor of Entertainer of the Year on Wednesday, while Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw and Keith Urban took home the award for Musical Event of the Year with their song "Highway Don't Care."

Other winners included newcomer Kacey Musgraves who took home the award for New Artist of the Year and Florida Georgia Line who won Single of the Year with the song "Cruise."

Meanwhile, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood served as hosts of the awards show, marking their sixth time in the position.
