Cobie Smulders to Return as Maria Hill in 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' (VIDEO)
Cobie Smulders has been confirmed to return to "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." to her character as Maria Hill in Marvel's Cinematic Universe.
Canadian actress, Cobie Smulders, one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s high profile agents, will be returning to the small screen to her role as Maria Hill in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
Smulders, 33, will also make an appearance in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" on May 1. She earlier mentioned on a last week's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" she would be revisiting her role on Marvel's ABC series. With three more episodes remaining for season two before the series' two-hour finale scheduled on May 12, Smulders may appear in all or any one of them.
Smulders told Kimmel her character functions as a link between the TV series and the movie franchise, and her return to the last three episodes of season two is intended to establish a connective thread between "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
Smulders, who first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in her role as Maria Hill in 2012's "The Avengers," has only made two earlier appearances on the TV series: during the pilot and during season one's second to the last episode, "Nothing Personal."
In the first episode, she made the mistake of assigning Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) to Phil Coulson's (Clark Gregg) new team, and the black ops specialist turned out to be a Hydra agent in disguise.
She next appeared after S.H.I.E.L.D.'s collapse in 2014's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." In the story arc, Hill is now under the employ of Tony Stark for her own legal protection, tries to convince Coulson to offer S.H.I.E.L.D.'s intel to the U.S. government to prevent their arrest.
Smulders will be rejoining the cast of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," including Gregg, Dalton, Ming-Na Wen as pilot and weapons expert Melinda May, Chloe Bennet as Inhuman hacktivist Daisy "Skye" Johnson, Iain De Caestecker as engineer and weapons tech Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as life sciences expert Jemma Simmons, Nick Blood as former mercenary Lance Hunter, and Adrianne Palicki as Hydra expert, Bobbi Morse.
