Cody Coots, Son of Dead 'Snake Salvation' Pastor Jamie Coots, Embraces Rattlesnake That Killed Father in Fiery Service
In an astounding demonstration of faith last Saturday night, Cody Coots, 21, son of the-late "Snake Salvation" pastor Jamie Coots, embraced the deadly rattlesnake that killed his father a week ago then played with fire in a rapturous church service.
A recent TMZ report said the young Coots prayed over a number of snakes, including the one that killed his father, then was showing in two separate videos dancing, screaming, singing and shaking with a snake at the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus' Name church in Middlesboro, Ky.
Since his father's death Cody, who has a wife and child, has assumed leadership of the small church of 20 members. He admitted in a USA Today report that he wasn't ready for the challenge, but has chosen to honor his father's wish.
"I didn't want this. I told my dad, I said, 'I don't want to be pastor. I've seen the way things have happened and I've seen things you have had to take care of. I don't want it.' He said, 'You're next in line. The Lord is going to call you anyways,'" said Cody.
He said because of his father's early death he never got the opportunity to ask him important questions and is currently praying for answers.
"I always told him to wait until he was 60 to die, and then I could take over the church. There are questions I don't know how to answer, and I sure don't have a solution for people's problems," said Cody.
