Colorado Churches Minister through Soup Chapel
Springs Rescue Mission, a ministry specializing in healing the spirit as well as the flesh, is offering hot meals alongside the Word of God in order to reach out to the needy in the Pikes Peak region of Colorado.
A local soup kitchen in Colorado Springs is providing physical and spiritual assistance to the poor.
Springs Rescue Mission, a ministry specializing in healing the spirit as well as the flesh, is offering hot meals alongside the Word of God in order to reach out to the needy in the Pikes Peak region of Colorado.
“We are different than soup kitchens in the sense that there is a Gospel message in every activity. It is not just food, but there is the Gospel message – at barbecues, every major holiday event, and our city-wide functions,” explains Joe Vazquez, executive director of Springs Rescue Mission.

Vazquez estimates that approximately 40 churches in Colorado Springs participate in the “Dinner and Chapel” evening program at Springs Rescue Mission, which has a regularly nightly turn out of 50-100 attendees.
Springs Rescue Mission offers the “Dinner and Chapel” program six days a week, serving over a million meals to the poor.
During its 8 years of serving the Colorado Springs community, the ministry has witnessed hundreds of participants receiving Christ or rededicating their lives to the Lord.
“What drew me to Springs Rescue Mission is the opportunity to meet people with physical needs, and with that opportunity to share the Gospel,” Vasquez added. “Most folks they deal with do not make them feel welcome because they are not dress properly … but they will come to a place like Springs Rescue Mission where they feel welcome. We are the church for them.”
In addition to meeting the participants’ dietary needs, the ministry is also providing vocational training in order to help people increase their work opportunity. Springs Rescue Mission will be holding their annual Fall Banquet on Sept. 15 and unveil the new vocational training van.
Springs Rescue Mission continues to extend its ministry, meeting the physical needs of the poor, while at the same time setting the Gospel as the center of their activities.
