Comedian Calls Christians ‘Idiots’ For Anger Over Tebow Jabs (Audio)
Comedian Jay Mohr ripped at what he called “idiots” and “moron” Christians for being upset over HBO host Bill Maher’s offensive tweet on Jesus and Tim Tebow after Saturday’s Broncos loss.
“People are going bananas,” Mohr said on Wednesday on the Jim Rome Show, when he was covering for Rome. “The tweet prompted some to call for a boycott of HBO. Yeah, that would be great Christians, except there’s nothing to boycott, there’s no commercials, you idiot,” Mohr said.
“There are no commercials you moron, it’s HBO Christians!” Mohr ranted on. “And I’m speaking as a Christian.”
Mohr took Christians anger towards Maher an offense to freedom of speech.
“Bill Maher can tweet whatever he wants. That’s the flip side of Tim Tebow giving praise to Jesus after every successful thing, is that someone should be able to say, ‘I guess Jesus didn’t want you to win,’” Mohr said on the radio show.
Maher, an outspoken atheist, comedian and HBO political commentator tweeted poking fun at Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow’s faith after losing a game over the weekend, initially sparking the controversy.
“Wow, Jesus just f**ked #TimTebow bad! And on Xmas Eve! Somewhere in hell Satan is tebowing, saying to Hitler ‘Hey, Buffalo’s killing them,’” Maher tweeted.
“Those are the only people left with free speech in this country,” Mohr said on air, in Maher’s defense. “The creeps that leave comments on message boards.”
Mohr went on to question why some media publications are allowed to publish the full “f-word” but not the “n-word.”
Mohr, who is also an actor, has starred in the popular films “Jerry Maguire,” opposite Tom Cruise, and “Pay it Forward.”
