Coming Winter Storm Hits Northeast, NYC With Snow Blizzard, Flooding Rain
Coming winter storm Euclid that blasted tornadoes throughout the South has hit the Northeast and New York City area with heavy snow that has dropped visibility down to zero in certain parts of Pennsylvania and New York, with expected flooding rain later in the day.
Around 2 p.m. Wednesday, snow began falling in New York City and Newark, N.J. area. The heavy snow brought by winter storm Euclid is expected to last several hours, mix with sleet and bring heavy rains and possible flooding in the evening.
Visibility was zero in Bradford, Pa. and Olean, N.Y., due to severe snow storm which covered Punxsutawney, Pa. in 5.0 inches of snow.
Winter storm Euclid has caused at least 750 flight delays, according to FlightAware.com. Storm wind speeds could reach 50 mph Wednesday at New York's John F. Kennedy airport, which is experiencing multiple delays and trip cancellations.
Car accidents caused by snow and sleek-covered highways led to six dead in Arkansas and Oklahoma. As much as 13 inches of snow will cover Arkansas.
Blizzard conditions in the coming winter storm apply to Arkansas and stretch up to New York and to Maine.
"Blizzard warnings stretch for 730 continuous miles due to Winter Storm Euclid," said Tom Niziol, a winter storm expert from The Weather Channel.
On Tuesday, thirty-four tornadoes were sighted in Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi, according to the National Weather Service.
Those in the path of storm Euclid are advised to stay home and refrain from holiday travel.
