Compassion International will partner with award winning Christian artists Bebo Norman, Caedmon’s Call, and Geoff Moore to bring music and stories of hope in up to 17 American cities this spring.

The tour, “An Evening of Compassion,” begins today and will also feature special guests John David Webster and Aaron Shust.

“I am constantly reminded of what matters in life,” said Moore, who received four straight Grammy Award nominations for Rock Gospel album, in a news release on Feb. 27. “Working to eliminate poverty is a total ‘priority-adjuster.’ It shows us how destitute we are without God in our lives. When poverty touches my life — when I am involved in helping the deprived — I am a better person for it.”

“An Evening of Compassion” began as a vision of Moore to share the plight of the poor through music with listeners and allow them to discover their role in fighting poverty. Moore had traveled to several developing countries with Compassion International and has become a strong advocate for eradicating global poverty, particularly focusing on children.

The band Caedmon’s Call also traveled with Compassion International along with Dalit Freedom Network, witnessing firsthand the work of the two Christian groups.

“Our perspective on worship and who we are before God has completely changed,” explained Cliff Young of Caedmon’s Call in a statement released on Feb. 27. “What we did by traveling throughout the developing world has reshaped our priorities and our understanding of what this life is supposed to be about. Now we have the privilege of sharing our experience with others and challenging each person to do their part to combat poverty.”

Bebo Norman, known for songs such as “Great Light of the World” and “Cover Me,” has spoke on behalf of children in poverty through Compassion for six years and has realized the difference one person can make in the life of a child.

“When I met my sponsored child through Compassion International, my life was changed forever,” Norman said. “I had the privilege to meet him in Tanzania. I was overwhelmed at first by the sight of poverty. But then I saw firsthand the hope he and his family now have because of Compassion’s program.”

The “An Evening of Compassion” concert series began three years ago and has helped find sponsors for nearly 5,000 children in Compassion International’s Child Sponsorship Program.

“Poverty tells children that they do not matter,” said Dr. Wess Stafford, President and CEO of Compassion International. “But with advocates like Geoff, Bebo and Caedmon’s Call, who encourage people to change the life of a child through sponsorship, we begin to see the cycle of poverty being broken.

“I am so thankful for the friendship of our artists and speakers, and the passion God has given them to challenge people to help little ones around the world. Every person can make a difference in the life of a child and Geoff, along with these other great artists, is committed to sharing that message with people around America,” said Stafford.

Compassion International is one of the world’s largest Christian child development organizations, working with more than 65 denominations and thousands of indigenous church partners in Africa, Asia, Central and South America and the Caribbean. Since 1952 Compassion has helped more than one million children.
