'Constantine' Animated Series Release Date, Trailer News: Trailer Shows Blood, Gore and Dark Themes

Fans of the DC Comics' iconic demon hunter, "Constantine," finally got their first look at the upcoming animated series of CW Seed.

The trailer, released during the New York Comic Con, provided a glimpse of the occult master as he faced the forces of evil. John Constantine, the protagonist, will be voiced by Matt Ryan, the same actor who played the character in the NBC's live-action show.

John is the infamous hunter demon in the DC universe. CW Seed has released a description of the character. As he faces different kinds of evil creatures, he will have to rely on his knowledge and skills to protect the innocent. Perhaps, at the end of his journey, John will find that there is hope for his soul after all. The dark themes of the animated series are said to be unfit for very young audiences. The trailer also contains a lot of blood and violence, as well as inappropriate language.

"John Constantine...a seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult. Armed with an arcane knowledge of the dark arts and a wicked wit, he fights the good fight. With his soul already damned to hell, he'll do whatever it takes to protect the innocent. With the balance of good and evil on the line‎, Constantine uses his skills to face the supernatural terrors that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows...maybe there's hope for him and his soul after all," the description reads.

A stellar team will also be producing the animated series. David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight trilogy), Greg Berlanti (Arrow), and Sarah Schechter (DC's Legends of Tomorrow) will be the executive producers. It will be written by J.M. DeMatteis (Justice League Dark) and produced by Butch Lukic (Justice League Action), while Doug Murphy (Justice League Action) will be in charge of directing.

The "Constantine" animated series will debut on CW Seed early 2018.
