Cory Monteith Dead: Ashes to be Spread in Three Cities

Cory Monteith's ashes will be scattered throughout Canada and the United States, his cousin revealed. Monteith was cremated after his premature death from a mixture of heroin and alcohol.

"I think Cory's mom wants to spread some of the ashes in the different places he loved," Richard Monteith told In Touch. "I think she wanted to cremate him so they could spread his ashes in L.A., Vancouver, and Victoria and keep a little bit for the family."

Monteith grew up between Victoria and Vancouver, and Vancouver is where he passed away. However, he worked in Los Angeles and was living there before his death. Monteith actually planned to move in with girlfriend, and "Glee" co-star Lea Michele before he died.

His death has caused a rift between father Joe and his mother, Ann. The two divorced when Monteith was only 7 years old. Joe has claimed that he was not allowed to see his son before he was cremated; he is now speaking out about the ordeal and the trauma not seeing his son has caused.

"They haven't told me anything about what's going on," Joe told In Touch. "When they did break the news to my wife, she almost feel over. In fact, I had to grab her. And I had to ask them again, what was that you said? It really didn't sink in. It still really hasn't."

"I always loved both my sons and am going to miss Cory very, very much," Joe told TMZ. "I'm saddened at the fact that I couldn't have been there to see my son before he was cremated."

Monteith's death came as a shock to those who knew and loved him. He had just finished a rehab program and was dedicated to staying sober. No one knew that he had started using again. Girlfriend Lea Michele has apparently been helping the Monteith family through the loss, helping to make arrangements for his memorial service and advising the family.

"Glee" creator Ryan Murphy announced that the show's upcoming season will start later than scheduled and a tribute episode will be written in Monteith's honor. His character, Finn Hudson, will be killed off in the new season. "Glee" fans are glad that Monteith will be honored in such a way but continue to mourn the loss of the young star.
