Cory Monteith Overdose: Lea Michele 'Completely Lost Her Mind' Over Boyfriend's Death
Lea Michele is reportedly struggling to come to grips with the death of her late boyfriend, Cory Monteith.
The "Glee" actress, who was a strong source of support for Monteith during his battle with addiction, began dating her co-star in early 2012. 31-year-old Monteith was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room Saturday and Michele was informed at approximately 10 p.m. As expected, she did not take the news lightly.
"Lea completely lost her mind. She went crazy, screaming and crying until 3 a.m.," a source told Us magazine.
Monteith's passing came just four months after he voluntarily entered rehab to combat substance abuse issues. His death was reportedly caused by a fatal overdose of heroin and alcohol which ultimately means he lost his ongoing battle with addiction, police said.
"Lea has been inconsolable and feels like she's been hit by a truck. She didn't know he'd started using again," the source said. "She is camped out at a friend's house because she can't be alone now."
Michele was photographed alongside Monteith at LAX airport four weeks after his release from rehab. The pair appeared to be in good spirits while jetting off for a couple's vacation and the actress, 26, reportedly believed he was sober.
"Lea is in a haze of disbelief. She was the biggest cheerleader of him getting sober," a source told In Touch magazine. "He fought for sobriety for her because she wanted it for him so badly. I think she hoped she could save him."
Monteith was reportedly cremated Tuesday hours after his body was released to his family. While Michele is trying to be strong while planning the actor's memorial, she is said to be blaming herself.
"[She] feels like this could have been stopped and she just can't stop blaming herself," the source revealed. "She is still processing everything. It doesn't even seem real."
