Countdown to the Democratic Convention: Nearly 20,000 Hacked DNC Emails Posted; Links and How to Search DNC Database Revealed

WikiLeaks reveals top DNC officials' email exchanges on Ariana Grande, convention perks, VIP parties and Bernie Sanders.

Anti-secrecy group WikiLeaks revealed around 20,000 hacked email accounts from the Democratic National Party as it prepares for its convention to be held in Philadelphia. This shocking revelation is in the light of Hillary Clinton's preparations to accept her party's nomination for president.

The hacked emails were about the Democratic Party's preparations, including how to destroy Clinton's rival for presidential nomination, as well as about Bernie Sanders and the perks for party donors that will attend the convention.

WikiLeaks announced their accomplishments on Twitter on Friday and gave readers a link to where they can personally search the Democratic National Committee's email database. After accessing the link, readers will be able to find a search box in the middle of the page with a short introduction on what was about to happen.

It read: "Today, Friday 22 July 2016 at 10:30 a.m. EDT, WikiLeaks releases 19,252 emails and 8,034 attachments from the top of the US Democratic National Committee—part one of our new Hillary Leaks series." The introduction suggested that there will be more materials to be leaked soon.

The introduction also mentioned names as well as the corresponding number of emails per person: "The leaks come from the accounts of seven key figures in the DNC . . . Communications Director Luis Miranda (10,770 emails), National Finance Director Jordon Kaplan (3,797 emails), Finance Chief of Staff Scott Comer . . ." Reports say that the newly released emails were from January 2015 to May 25, 2016.

Document Details

One email which was composed May 5 from a party official to Miranda said that the party may be able to assist Clinton's campaign if she questioned Bernie Sander's faith. It was then clear that the party preferred Clinton over Sanders.

The email from a marshall@dnc.org said, "Does he believe in a God. He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage. I think I read he is an atheist. This could make several points different with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist."

A few emails were about who gets to sit next to Obama at the DNC event. An email exchange from Alexandra Shapiro, Mid-Atlantic Finance Director, and Jordan Kaplan, National Finance Director, was an argument whether Philip Munger, a NY philanthropist, or Sreedhar Potarazu, a Maryland ophthalmologist, were to get the position. Shapiro cited that Munger had only donated $100,000 to the party while Potarazu contributed $332,250.

Still, more emails about letting Ariana Grande perform at the DNC event after posting a popular video of being anti-America, convention packages which was about how party officials were going to reward top-tier donors, and after-convention VIP parties and discussions of organization plans can be accessed at the WikiLeaks link.
