Country Music Awards: Scotty McCreery Tops Fellow 'Idol' Winner Carrie Underwood?
Both winners of past “American Idol” competitions, Carrie Underwood and Scotty McCreery have taken the stage at the 2011 Country Music Awards Wednesday. Despite great performances from both, fans claimed McCreery wowed the audience, while Underwood sounded slightly off.
McCreery released his new album, Clear As Day, while Underwood has three hit albums and is a winner of numerous top awards. Despite his career falling short of his senior “Idol” winner, McCreery’s performance during the CMA’s has been as hailed superior to Underwood’s.
Underwood returned as host of the CMA’s for the third time, alongside country music star Brad Paisley. She and her co-host took a break from presenting to perform their single, “Remind Me.”
Shortly after Underwood’s performance, McCreery sang “Walk in the Country” in front of the large crowd. According to fans on Twitter, he handled the big stage very well, possibly better than his “Idol” predecessor Underwood.
In a recent interview, 17-year-old singer discussed signing with a major record label, the release date of his debut album, and what he calls his God-given talent.
The born-again Christian country crooner told entertainment website PopCrush that he credits God for his most prized trait – his sense of rhythm.
"You know everybody has that certain thing where God blessed them with something and gives them that special talent whether it’s music or sports or writing or anything," he said. "So, [it is] just one of those things God blessed me with – the rhythm."
McCreery, proud of his Christian faith, has often said that God helps get him through the hardships he faces and that he loves Jesus Christ with all of his heart.
When he was announced as the winner of "American Idol" season 10, McCreery said before a cheering audience, "I've got to thank the Lord first; he got me here."
The singer will team up with Brad Paisley on a tour starting next year.
