COVID-19: 4 things to know about face masks
4. States mandating face masks
More states are now requiring that residents wear masks when in public. Texas became the latest one to issue a mandate, with a few exceptions, as confirmed COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the state. Those who violate the order will be given a warning and can be fined.
Other states with some form of a mask mandate include: California, Delaware, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Washington D.C., and Washington state.
In some states without a mandate, local governments have issued an order requiring masks. These include Phoenix; Jacksonville, Florida; Nashville; and Salt Lake City, among others.
