CP World Report: Afghanistan, Iran President, Vancouver Reputation, Abortion Debate
We've all heard about Iranian President Ahmedinejad's threats to wipe Israel off the face of the map. CNN's Fareed Zakaria sat down to an interview with the Iranian leader and questioned him about this desire, where he made a mockery of Zakaria's question.
Afghan soldiers turning their guns on American troops continue to be a disturbing trend of insider attacks. The US troop death toll is up to an alarming 2-thousand now. The string of insider attacks is one of the greatest threats to NATO's mission in the country, endangering a partnership key to the training of Afghan security forces and withdrawing international troops.Over the weekend another shooting took place at an Afghan army checkpoint just outside a joint U.S.-Afghan base. A NATO service member and civilian contractor were killed. Both were Americans.
Vancouver has been voted the city with the world's best reputation . The survey was conducted by the Consulting firm "Reputation Institute". Its annual study ranks the world's 100 most reputable cities by polling over 18,000 people from the G8 countries. In Canada: Thousands have signed a petition calling for the resignation of the "status of women minister" Rona Ambrose after she pledged support for motion 312 that was introduced in parliament by backbencher Stephen Woodworth to open discussion on when life begins. Opponents of the motion accuse it of being a sly way to reintroduce the abortion debate. Ambrose is the Conservative MP for Edmonton-Spruce Grovel. She voted against party wishes to vote in favor of re-evaluating Canadian policy about the 400 year old definition of when life begins. It has sparked not only a backlash, but a debate over whether women can both champion women's rights and yet have pro-life views. Immigration minisister Jason Kenney—a staunch Catholic also voted in favor of Motion 312 while prime Minister Stephen harper voted against in keeping with an election promise. South of the border…..Anti-abortion and pro-abortion perspectives have clashed in the current U.S. presidential election, and protests against cuts to Planned Parenthood.
