CP World Report: Gaza-Israel, Morsi Power Grab, Pope's New Book
In the midst of a ceasefire between Gaza and Israel, Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has come out and declared a victory for Gaza, saying Israel is incapable of winning a war against Gaza. He also warned that thousands of rockets would rain down on Tel Aviv and cities across Israel if it attacked Lebanon. He also reiterated support for Iran.
New outrage erupted in Egypt, directed at president Mohamed Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood party. Protests in Alexandria and Sinai turned violent, following a presidential decree that gives Morsi almost unlimited powers . Some are already calling it a coup. Thousands of demonstrators gathered in Cairo's Tahrir square right through the weekend. Morsi addressed his supporters telling them his actions are in the interest of stability.
A Conservative Senator has taken Canada's good wishes to a young Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai who is recovering from gunshot wounds to the neck and head. She was targeted by the Taliban while on a school bus in Pakistan. Senator Salma Ataullahjan met Malala's father; and left gifts for Malala. She also left a poem for Malala, written by her own young daughter.

The death penalty provision of an anti-gay bill in Uganda has been dropped, and Members of the Ugandan Parliament have immediately moved to endorse the amended legislation. The Speaker of Parliament described the amendment as a "Christmas gift" to gay advocates, who have long campaigned against Uganda's strict anti-homosexuality laws. The current bill still calls for longer jail terms for homosexual acts, including a life sentence in certain circumstances.

"The book: Jesus of Nazareth: The Infancy Narratives," has just gone on sale in 50 countries In it, the Pope affirms the Virgin birth but says the animals supposedly looking on—like the ones in the nativity scenes-- were "an invention". But the Pope says: "No nativity scene will give up its ox and donkey." The first two instalments of the Pope's trilogy looked at his public ministry and death. They quickly became bestsellers and the third book is expected to be just as popular over this Christmas season.
