A strong earthquake measuring 6.9 on the richter scale shook northeastern India and Nepal killing at least 16 people, and injuring dozens. It damaged buildings, snapped power lines and interrupted phone service.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh offered to send troops to help and summoned the national Disaster management Authority for an emergency meeting.
Egypt’s Prime Minister has provoked a stir in Israel after declaring that the historic Camp David peace accords between the two countries were not a sacred thing. Tensions are already volatile in the region between Israel and the Arab world, so Essam Sharaf’s suggestion that the 33 year old peace treaty could be revised came as a shock to the Jewish state. And his comments come…not long after mobs stormed an Israeli embassy in Cairo, burned a flag and ransacked the place. Israel is also engaged in a diplomatic row with Turkey and now bracing for the Palestinian bid for statehood coming up at the U.N., of which the U.S. has threatened to veto.
For the first time ever, the voices of unborn children will be heard on Capitol Hill. Beginning at the Congressional Auditorium in Washington, D.C., “Voices From the Womb” will launch its national campaign on October 13th. It is sponsored by The Stanton Project, the Christian Defense Coalition and the National Pro-life Center. It is open to members Congress and the public to witness history in the making. After the kickoff campaign, “Voices From the Womb” will begin a tour performing ultrasounds throughout nation
The HPV vaccine issue ended up a hot topic following the Republican presidential debate .
Back in 2007, Texas Governor Rick Perry issued an executive order, mandating H-P-V vaccines for 11-and-12-year-old girls. H-P-V is a sexually-transmitted virus that can cause cervical cancer. The controversial order was overturned by Texas lawmakers – and now Perry’s opponents are saying he was motivated by a political donor connected to the vaccine's maker.
But…. at least one family says Perry had a compassionate reason for signing the order. (CNN report “….. know that it's out there.”)

Quebec’s premier has declared he is the solution to the province’s corruption crisis. Jean Charest was reacting to a report leaked to the media that outlines the elaborate web of mob influences and corruption in Quebec’s construction industry. Charest laid out a list of measures his government had already taken to fight the corruption. They include changes to municipal-contracting rules; tougher tax-evasion laws; political-fundraising bills; a new police anti-corruption squad; and a new anti-collusion task force. Charest's Liberals hold a three-seat majority in the legislature.

Since it began three years ago, participants in the U.S. “National Back To Church Sunday” movement. has invited over 3.5 million people to either discover or rediscover their local church. Today, they continue to do so through the “power of personal invitation” Over 7,300 churches were signed up for it yesterday, almost doubling the numbers of last year.

For all the Disney-Pixar fans out there, the studio is about to release something for the first time: an animation starring a female protagonist. “Brave,”is centered on Princess Merida, where Kelly Macdonald will be her voice. Originally it was to be Reese Witherspoon but it didn’t work out because of a scheduling conflict. The story centers on Scottish princess Merida who chooses her own destiny and defies custom. The movie is schedule to hit the theaters next June. One of Pixar’s pioneer Andrew Stanton, once told Christianity Today how his Christian faith informs his work.
