WELCOME TO WORLD REPORT, I’M CHRISTINE WILLIAMS
Iran has once again asked imprisoned Christian pastor Youcef Nadarkhani to renounce his faith in Christ and accept Muhammad as his savior, but he has refused. Persecution watchdog Christian Solidarity Worldwide says the latest pressure….violates both the Iranian Constitution and various principles of international law. Nadarkhani has been in prison since October 2009, originally arrested for protesting against the teaching of Islam in his children’s schools. Charges later changed to apostasy and attempting to evangelize Muslims. He was sentenced to death unless he renounces his Christian faith.
Doctors across Canada are being urged to conceal the gender of a fetus from all expectant moms until 30 weeks to prevent sex-selective abortion by mostly Asian immigrants. An article in the Canadian Medical Association Journal referred to Canada as…a haven for parents who would abort female fetuses in favor of male. That’s because of Canada’s advanced prenatal testing and easy access to abortion. Several hundred sex-selective abortions take place in Canada each year.
All around the nation Americans celebrated the achievements of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Junior. The 32nd annual Martin Luther King Jr. parade that was held in San Diego included: floats, marching bands, drill teams and church groups, all paying tribute to doctor King. Assassinated in Memphis in 19-68, King would have been 83 years old today.
A commercial has been accused of enforcing traditional gender stereotypes. The Tide commercial depicts a woman wanting the baggy, masculine sweater of her daughter to get ruined by a stain, because she wants her daughter to dress more feminine; but to mom’s disappointment, Tide removes it. Sex education magazine—Sex Ecetera --has called the commercial unfair and stereotypical. While the organization conforms to the idea that “gender identity” is different from the biological gender of a person, Peter Sprigg, Senior Fellow for Policy Studies at the Family Research Council argued, “while a person cannot choose whether they are male or female, that is something that is intrinsic in their body at birth.
Dozens of conservative Christian leaders met in Texas over the weekend to talk politics. They were not very happy with how the Republican presidential race has been going so far. Take a look.
Representatives from a broad array of faiths, have issued an Open Letter affirming that marriage is the union of one man and one woman. The Leaders noted: the possibility of ministers being forced to officiate same-sex “weddings” could be one of the greatest threats to religious freedom in America in the modern era. Leaders included representatives from the National Association of Evangelicals, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Mormon Church and Orthodox Jews. The letter also pointed out concerns that same sex marriage laws would require religious adoption services to go against their faith belief.
Far from the world media’s gaze in remote islands off the eastern coast of Africa, church buildings are razed and Christians are ostracized and imprisoned for their faith. It’s on Tanzania’s island of Zanzibar, where Muslim extremists recently torched the building of the Pentecostal Evangelical Fellowship of Africa. To date no arrests have being made. According to Daniel Kwilembe, bishop of the church, authorities take no action in crimes against Christians.
