It's the big day so many have been holding their breath for: election day. And the most expensive one in American history. The Barack Obama/Mitt Romney campaigns came to a close yesterday, with the candidates making their pitches to voters in key battleground states.
And even before the polls opened, Lawyers in Florida and Ohio began wrangling over votes, bringing to mind the protracted legal battles that followed the 2000 elections. Many political pundits are expecting the same after today's election.
A preliminary hearing began yesterday for U.S. soldier—Robert Bales-- charged with 16 counts of premeditated murder and six counts of attempted murder in Afghahistan. Among the victims were nine children. The 39-year-old father of two from Lake Tapps, Washington is accused of slipping away from a remote outpost in southern Afghanistan just before dawn on March 11, armed with an M-4 rifle, outfitted with a grenade launcher to attack 2 villages. The hearing will decide whether the case should proceed to a court-martial
The Greek Orthodox Church is threatening to shut down Christianity's holiest site, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.It's because of a dispute with an Israeli water company over 2.1 million U.S. in unpaid water bills, dating back decades. Yet any move to close the Church will need agreement from the Catholic and Armenian Churches. The Greek Orthodox Church contends that the Holy Sepulchre was always treated as a special case and exempted from water fees, unlike other churches in the Holy Land. But a spokesman for Hagihon water company, however, said the law did not permit the company to make such exemptions. A protest letter has gone out to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres by the Greek Orthodox Church.
The body of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat will be exhumed Nov. 26. A Swiss team—who arrived in the West Bank ahead of time -- will assess the grave site and plan how best to dig up the remains.The team will be joined by French investigators. The new probes into Arafat's death in 2004 come after a Swiss lab recently discovered traces of a deadly radioactive isotope, on clothes said to be Arafats.

A pastor was killed and 11 others were wounded in Garissa , Kenya. Suspected Islamist extremists attacked a church with an explosive during a worship service. It is suspected that the blast could be a revenge attack by sympathizers of Islamist terror group al-Shabaab in neighboring Somalia, where Kenyan forces are involved in fighting the Islamist militant group.
